Your favorite elemental mod?
Search is currently disabled... grrr.
When you use an elemental mod on your weapon, which do you prefer? I know there are obvious situations - fire vs. ice types, etc. But is there one that is better in more situations than another? One in particular thats less easily defended against? (In PvE!)
Thanks everyone!

Usually I just use Earth, since basically no one takes anti-earth skills or equipment.

Ebon (earth) is worthlessly bad (there isn't even a Conjure Obsidian skill). Granted, the fact that nobody expects it does make it sort of useful. I think its actually kinda funny to use it in PvP, for as Random said, nobody brings anti earth armor/equipment.
Fire is probably better for PvE.

I'd have to say Ebon, for no particular reason other than it sounds cool and I don't think anything really defends much against it. Then again, if things like Titans are strong against one element and weak against another, then to a third element they're probably agnostic, so it doesn't matter so much. Could maybe cut out some AL on warriors if you're fighting PvP, I guess.

Ebon! Yes, I love the earth damage ... with my mighty conjure earth spells! ...
/sarcasm
In all seriousness, I prefer Fiery (not the Guru poster, but the weapon mod ... sorry Fiery! ). Since alot of the higher level areas in and around the southern shiverpeaks are infested with ice golems ... plus fire has other utility like mark of rodgort (from your average nuker backline ele) where you can catch things on fire ... and who doesn't love that? Plus all your plants (like Kryta titans) take extra damage from fire ...

Shocking for PvE (thunderclap, glimmering mark, iron mist) if you ever run those, Ebon without exception for PvP. Shocking works well against most stuff, Fiery is good in the Shiverpeaks, Icy good for the last mission, Ebon just kinda stinks in PvE.

Hmmm.... tough call. I have a sword collection with all four elements. I would say my IDS is my favourite though. I waltzed through the Ring Of Fire Island missions with my warrior.

Stop me if i'm wrong ... but this doesn't make much sense to me. For an element type to be doing any extra damage, it would have to be against a foe that has a "weakness" to it (we're talking PvE here) ... excluding conjures, of course ...
IE:
Fire mods > ice golems
Icy mods > Burning Titans
Air ?
Earth ?
If your target has no weakness or +AL to ebon (earth) damage, would you not just be doing the same amount of damage you'd do with a non-elemental weapon in the first place? 15-22 slashing damage on a regular sword = 15-22 earth damage with an ebon-hilted sword, right?

Heh, same here.
I also like it because it seems like more people use it in GvGs. I use pyromancer gloves and boots, but when people use fire comes not that many know how to use it effectively so I think I might just go full aeromancer.

You're correct, but enemies like ettins have bonus armor against physical attacks. By using any elemental weapon, you bypass that bonus armor. I don't know of any enemies that are weak against earth or strong against earth, so the only use I could see for it is what I described above.
